Academic Programs Committee

Purpose(s): The Academic Programs Committee is charged with the responsibility of advising the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services on matters relevant to the instructional programs and the curricula of Virginia Highlands Community College. Matters for consideration by this committee may be referred to the Committee by the President of the College or by any member of the Committee. This committee reviews catalog changes.

The Academic Programs Committee will assist the Vice President of Institutional Advancement in advising the President and the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services on issues related to program review and student outcomes assessment as part of the College's institutional effectiveness program.  The Committee will assist in the design and implementation of a comprehensive program review and student outcomes assessment program with a particular emphasis on degree and diploma program majors including transfer and career/technical education, developmental studies, general education, dual enrollment, and distance education.

Membership: The Academic Programs Committee will consist of the following:

The Committee shall select a chairman from among its membership. The Vice President of Instruction and Student Services shall be ineligible for the Committee chairmanship.

Meeting Schedule: In order to get this Committee organized each year, the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services shall call its initial meeting as soon as possible after membership has been determined. Subsequent meetings shall be at the call of the chairman. Normally this Committee will meet the second Tuesday of each month unless there are no agenda items.
