CAREER PLANNING AND PLACEMENT SPECIALIST

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Student Success Center, the VHCC Career Planning Specialist in coordination with other college offices will provide support to the College in the following areas:

  1. Provide career planning and job search information to students (and alumni) through the presentation of workshops, in class teaching, one-on-one and group counseling sessions, a one-credit student development course on preparing for employment, and via print and electronic methods.
     
  2. Maintain a web page for students including current job postings of local/regional businesses and industries.
     
  3. Maintain personal contacts with local/regional business and industry human resource personnel to inform them of programs and services and to solicit current job postings.
  4.  Administer the office and work in collaboration with the Student Success Center. Supervise work study students.
     
  5. Organize and provide special events to assist students in learning career and job search techniques.
     
  6. Be an active member of campus organizations, committees, and boards. Attend local, regional, and national conference and VCCS sponsored peer groups and learning initiatives. Qualifications - Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (or similar) software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web applications. Demonstrated success in job placement or business/industry job recruitment preferred. Baccalaureate degree required. Job placement or business/industry job recruitment work experience preferred.
