DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY AND INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES

The Director of Library and Instructional Services reports directly to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Integrating the functions of the Library, Learning Laboratory, Audio Visual Services, Academic and Administrative Computing Services, Distance Learning, and Educational Technology through a division mission statement and setting goals consistent with the educational purpose of the College.
     
  2. Coordinating the management of the Library, Learning Laboratory, Audio Visual Services, Academic and Administrative Computing, Distance Learning, and Educational Technology.
     
  3. Managing the budget of the Library and Instructional Services Division, including writing, modifying and expending the Colleges annual technology Plan budget.
     
  4. Recommending to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services new divisional personnel, including recruiting, reviewing and interviewing applicants.
     
  5. Supervising division personnel and formally evaluating each member annually.
     
  6. Encouraging continuing professional growth for all members of the division.
     
  7. Providing leadership for implementing institutional effectiveness within the library and instructional services areas including but not limited to the following: strategic planning, annual departmental planning and evaluation cycle, program review, and student outcomes assessment, using a variety of measures and institutional data to improve programs and processes as determined necessary and appropriate.
     
  8. Creating and maintaining appropriate records on computer access, security, security awareness training, software licensing, and inventory, faculty and staff satisfaction surveys on technologies, computer services and training, including computer hardware and software, email and telephone services and equipment, and response times for services. Reviewing of all significant services issues and documenting all actions taken.
     
  9. Processing, and in consultation with deans, prioritizing if necessary, requests for teleconferencing, use of instructional television, equipping and operating the College’s computer laboratories, and providing distance education support for VHCC’s classes as well as classes from other educational institutions offered on VHCC’s campus.
  10. As head librarian, selecting and supervising the processing of all materials purchased with division funds.
     
  11. Assisting teaching faculty in achieving their instructional objectives such as research, computerized tutoring and teaching, Internet access, information literacy instruction including virtual library access.
     
  12. Planning and coordinating professional growth opportunities for college community from all services areas of the division.
     
  13. Supervising and evaluating library work study students.
     
  14. Supervising, issuing, and validating student and faculty ID’s.
     
  15. Supervising inventory of division resources, including materials and equipment.
     
  16. Presenting Library orientations for classes upon faculty request in addition to providing on-to-one instruction upon patron request.
     
  17. Administering information literacy services, including reference assistance, interlibrary loan, reserve materials and intercollegiate services.
     
  18. Accumulating archival material.
     
  19. Coordinating and supervising division services with Evening Administration Coordinator.
     
  20. Performing other duties deemed appropriate by the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services.
