COORDINATOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES

The Coordinator of Library Services is responsible for coordinating management of the library, scheduling, organizing, and implementing reference and instructional activities for the Virginia Highlands Community College library and, as time permits, the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. Providing reference assistance to VHCC faculty and students and library patrons is central to this position. Reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, and responsibilities include:

  1. Coordination of VHCC access to library resources, both print and electronic, for on-site and distance education classes.
     
  2.  Management of the budget and inventory of the Library and Instructional Services Division.
     
  3.  Leadership of reference, circulation, collection development, information literacy instruction, circulation, inter-library loan, acquisitions and cataloging services to faculty, students, and public users of the VHCC library.
     
  4. Leadership in institutional effectiveness within the library services areas including but not limited to the following: strategic planning, annual departmental planning and evaluation cycle, program review, and student outcomes assessment, using a variety of measures and institutional data to improve programs and processes as determined necessary and appropriate.
     
  5. Working cooperatively with librarians and faculty from diverse institutions, offering both undergraduate and graduate courses, to increase ease of access and familiarity with resources available. Serving as the VHCC Liaison to the VCCS LRC Directors group under the Director of Library Automation at the VCCS.
     
  6. Providing on-site professional growth opportunities for all faculty and staff in the access and use of available library and information resources.
     
  7.  Supervision and evaluation of division personnel.

  8. Coordination of training and scheduling of staff to provide adequate coverage of library hours to accommodate day, evening, and weekend service requirements and information literacy instruction sessions.
     
  9.  As head librarian, selection and supervision of the processing of all materials purchased with division funds.

  10.  Assisting teaching faculty in achieving their instructional objectives such as research, computerized tutoring and teaching, internet access, and information literacy instruction, including virtual library access.

  11. Supervision, issuance, and validation of student, faculty, an staff identification cards.

  12. Development of a system of managing archival material.
     
  13. Performing other duties deemed appropriate by the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services.
