Preliminary note to Summer 2008 students:
I might be a few minutes late for the first class. I don't expect to be more than 30 minutes late, but the situation is not totally under my control. The effects of Friday's storm made it impossible for me to complete a couple of things that absolutely must be completed first thing Monday morning.
I have left instructions with Mr. Johnson, Mr. Adams and Michael Abel to have you start with this webpage. Simply follow the instructions, one step at a time. I'll see you shortly and at that time I'll introduce you to the actual course.

Note that in the following you probably don't yet have an access code or a VCCS email address; for now just leave those blank if you are asked for them, but be sure to include your name. This won't be a problem.
Run through and submit the self-explanatory form at vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/forms/orientation_part_1.htm. This should take you just a few minutes (maybe a little longer if your Internet connection is slow).
Then run the following and submit them (copy the contents of your SEND file from the c:\vhmthphy folder and submit using the Submit Work Form) as you did with the q_a_prelim. Do your best and don't worry if you miss some questions--parts of these exercises are designed to be tricky. If your solutions differ from the given solutions, do self-critique by stating what you do and do not understand about the given solution. In case you get confused on the order of activities in the program, come back to the following; however you can ignore it unless you do run into some confusion.
To run the program correctly you click on the Next Question/Solution button (top left), enter your response in the Answer box (the box at top right), click on the Enter Response button (above the top right box), then again on the Next Question/Solution botton (top left) to see the solution, and finally enter your response or self-critique in the Answer box and click on Enter Response.
You then start the process over with the next question, clicking on the Next Question/Solution button at top left, etc.
Before, after or during these exercises, do your best on the problem set First-Night Problems.
Finally, especially if you're going to be out Wednesday, do your best on the set First-Weekend Problems.
If you get through all this you'll be ahead of the class on some things, behind on a couple of others, but in good shape to catch up.
