We start the course off with the Introductory Problems of the Randomized Problem Set. Simply follow the links, then follow the instructions.
We then proceed to model the depth vs. time for water leaking from a uniform cylinder, as demonstrated on the video clip. On the CD, view the clips that are relevant to your course.
We will use the modeling approach throughout the course. This first model is your introduction to the process and its uses.
When you get to the problem where you model the potato, you are asked to solve a system of linear equations. You should know how to do this, but in case you don't you can go to the Completing the Introductory Model link and see the process carried out in detail.
The Randomized Problems all go into a problem bank from which major quizzes and tests are constructed. These problems are therefore doubly worthy of your attention.
The text is optional, as indicated in the syllabus. If you have the text you may use it to review some of the concepts and terminology you learned in prerequisite courses. Suggested review sections are indicated.
