The focus of this assignment is on the mathematical modeling process in the context of quadratic models, and the rate-of-change behavior associated with these models.

The core of calculus is the relationship between quantity functions and rate functions.  The paradigm context is the relationship between the function that describes the depth of water in a uniform cylinder as a function of clock time, and the function that describes the rate at which depth changes.  Soon you will see how these functions are in a derivative-integral relationship that illustrates the fundamental theorem of calculus.
