I am trying to get started and am already very confused about the format of this class. I have taken many online classes but never any as cryptic as this. I don't really understand all of the security precautions or the fact that I need to provide you with URLs. At this point, I am wondering if I may be better off taking this class on campus.

I will attempt to follow your instructions and provide you with the steps and URLs I am taking to access my portfolio in this email.

When I click the link in your email, it takes me to http://vhmthphy.vhcc.edu/ the math physics homepage.

I then click the General Information link and am directed to http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/genInfo/default.htm the general information page.

From there, I click the Access your Portfolio link, which takes me to http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/genInfo/labrynth_created_fall_05/menu.htm the level 1 menu.

I then click 01. Nothing happens on the first click.

Something did happen on your first click. The URL changed. You are on a new page, which looks just like the first. On this page you need to click on the second number 48.

If you read the instructions carefully you will see that you were warned about this, and given a reason for it.

I have done this many times and it's the same thing each time. When I click 01 a second time, I am directed to http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/genInfo/labrynth_created_fall_05/levl1_01/levl2_01/menu.htm level 3 menu.

At the Level 3 menu, I click 048 and am given an error message at this URL: http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/genInfo/labrynth_created_fall_05/levl1_01/levl2_01/file3_048.htm

I do not understand why there are so many security measures in place to access my portfolio for a college physics class.

These measures are taken because higher education is very paranoid about protecting privacy. Not my choice.
