Week4Quiz1

course phy 201

A projectile leaves the edge of a table and, while traveling horizontally at a constant 37 cm/s, falls freely a distance of 149 cm to the floor. If its vertical acceleration is 980 cm/s2, how long does it take to fall and how far does it travel in

the horizontal direction during the fall?

since it takes the same time to hit the floor as if you dropped oout of your hands v0 will be 0. Since we know `ds,a and v0

we can find `dt by using the equation `ds=v0`dt+.5a`dt^2. We have to change the equation for`dt.

`dt=sqrt((2*`ds)/a).`dt=sqrt((2*149cm)/980cm/s^2),`dt=sqrt(298cm/980cm/s^2),`dt=sqrt(.30),`dt=.55s. Now we know the `dt and

the velcoity of 37cm/s we can find how far it traveled. 37cm/s*.55s=20.4cm. So it travels 20.4cm horizontally in .55s
