ball down ramp

Your 'ball down ramp' report has been received. Scroll down through the document to see any comments I might have inserted, and my final comment at the end.

** Your general comment **

** Will a steeper ramp give greater or lesser time? **

If a ramp is steeper, the ball will roll down the ramp faster, unless it is longer than a ramp that is shorter but not as steep. It should be least for the greatest slope assuming the length of each shelf standard is the same.

** As slopes increases will time intervals increase, decrease or show no pattern? **

I would assume that the time intervals would decrease as the slope increases.

The first five lines indicate how long it took the ball to travel 23.808cm and hit the bracket from being at rest at the top of the domino. The second five lines indicate the same thing except that the domino was facing the left side instead of the right side. The second time the bracket was facing the right side instead of the left.

** Do your results support or fail to support your hypothesis about increasing or decreasing times? **

I hypothesized that if the steepness of the slope increases, than the time taken to travel the ramp decreases. These results show that I was right.

** How do you think ave velocity is related to slope? **

Average velocity increases as slope increases. When the steepness of the slope gets bigger, there is more acceleration of the ball, which will make it travel at a higher velocity. When this happens, the time interval will decrease.

** Speculate on why ave velocity changes with slope. **

Average velocity increases as slope increases.

** How could you test your speculations? **

If I were to put a fourth or even fifth domino, the time interval would shorten. This would make an even greater average velocity.
