** How does the system behave and how does it 'feel'? **
the harder I squeeze, the farther the water travels in the pressure tube, but when I release the pressure of my hand, the water returns to its previous position. The air in the end of the pressure tube is compressed by the water when it is forced out of the way by the air from in the container when I squeeze the bottle, but when I stop squeezing, it returns to equilibrium as it was before.
** Length of the air column in units of your measuring device: **
I have chosen to use a single reduction of the measuring device. As it is a relative measurement and I will not be changing measuring devices, my measurements will be of the same level of precision.
** Your report of the vertical position of the first mark relative to the water surface of the first mark, the length of the air column in units of your selected measuring device, and the two meniscus positions observed with each of your five trials. **
The length of the air column is 38 centimeters from the end of the inside of the plug at the end to to meniscus of the trapped water column.
I have the beginning of my ruler at the plug and the markings extend along the tubing.
** Your report of the vertical position of the second mark relative to the water surface of the first mark, the length of the air column in units of your selected measuring device, and the two meniscus positions observed with each of your five trials. **
