What are the average acceleration and final velocity of an object which accelerates uniformly from rest, attaining a velocity of 40 cm/sec in 13.6 seconds? How far does the object travel during the 13.6 seconds?ANSWER:
average acceleration = change in velocity / change in clock time. The change in velocity = 40 cm/s and the change in time = 13.6 s.
Therefore, average accel = 40 cm/s / 13.6s = 2.9 cm/s^2
The final velocity is the stated 40 cm/s
The object travels 40 cm/s * 13.6 s = 544 cm
Good, except for your displacement.
The object only reaches 40 cm/s at the very last instant. Your solution assumes it was traveling at that velocity througout the interval.
