The problem:
A ball starts with velocity 4 cm/sec and ends with a velocity of 10 cm/sec.
• What is your best guess about the ball's average velocity?
o 10 cm/s – 4 cm/s = 6 cm/s
this is the change in velocity, which a distinct quantity unrelated to average velocity
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
• Without further information, why is this just a guess?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
The reason that this would just be a guess is that the amount of time for this change is not mentioned. If there were more information a more concise average velocity could be determined.
• If it takes 3 seconds to get from the first velocity to the second, then what is your best guess about how far it traveled during that time?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
By taking 6 cm/s and multiplying that by 3 seconds. 6cm/s * 3 seconds = 18 cm would be my guess as to the distance the ball traveled during that time.
• At what average rate did its velocity change with respect to clock time during this interval?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
Taking 6 cm/s and dividing that by 3 seconds would result in 2 cm/s/s

10 minutes
