004. `Query 4

*********************************************

Question: `q2.4.13 (formerly 2.4.12) This was not assigned but you answered similar questions and should be able to answer this one: n(A') = 25, n(B) = 28, n(A' U B') = 40, n(A ^ B) = 10. What is n(A - B)?

SOLUTION: n(A-B)=35

confidence rating #$&*: Not at all confident. As I am a visual learner, at first the Venn diagrams were helping. Now I am having difficulty finding the correct values in the areas of intersection.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Self-critique (if necessary):

I drew 2 intersecting circles. I labeled the intersection = 10 (n(A ^ B) = 10). I saw that n(B) = 28, so I was able to determing that there were 18 in B-A. I was able to go no further with any level of certainty. I will go back and work the problems in this chapter again.

Question: `qquery 2.4.18 wrote and produced 2, wrote 5, produced 7 &&&& How many did he write but not produce?

SOLUTION: He wrote 3 projects that he did not produce . Total of 10 projects; 5 of which he wrote; 2 of which he wrote and produced. 2 is the intersection. He wrote 5 projects - 2 projects he wrote and produced =3 projects he wrote and did not produce.

confidence rating #$&*: Very confident; the Venn diagram worked perfectly on this one.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Self-critique (if necessary): I need to figure out why I could easily produce the (correct)Venn diagram for this exercise but could not for the previous question. I think that it is the formulas vs. word problems, but i am not sure.

Question: `q2.4.25 (formerly 2.4.24) 9 fat red r, 18 thn brown r, 2 fat red h, 6 thin red r, 26 fat r, 5 thin red h, 37 fat, 7 thin brown hens. ......!!!!!!!!...................................

SOLUTION:

fat chickens: 26+9+2 =37

red chickens: 2+9+6+5=22

male: 18+26+9+6=59

fat but not male: 37-26=11

brown but not fat: 18+7=25

red and fat: 9+2=11

confidence rating #$&*: Not extremely confident. Don't understand the counting of male only chickens.

@& You should submit the entire document here and self-critique your work in detail, as instructed, in terms of the given solutions. Once I know in some detail what you specifically do and do not understand, I can help clarify, and will be glad to do so.

&#Your response did not agree with the given solution in all details, and you should therefore have addressed the discrepancy with a full self-critique, detailing the discrepancy and demonstrating exactly what you do and do not understand about the parts of the given solution on which your solution didn't agree, and if necessary asking specific questions (to which I will respond).

&#

By 'the entire document' I mean all of the Query document, including solutions and other symbols. You can insert into the document but shouldn't remove anything that was originally there.*@
