A ball starts with velocity 4 cm/sec and ends with a velocity of 10 cm/sec.

• What is your best guess about the ball's average velocity?

answer/question/discussion:

An average velocity of 7cm per second

• Without further information, why is this just a guess?

answer/question/discussion:

Well in order to get an accurate average velocity we would have to have the distance traveled by the ball so therefore we can only guess what the velocity is.

• If it takes 3 seconds to get from the first velocity to the second, then what is your best guess about how far it traveled during that time?

answer/question/discussion:

I would guess that the ball traveled 21cm based on my guess of 7cm/s for the average velocity

At what average rate did its velocity change with respect to clock time during this interval?

answer/question/discussion:

It increased from 4cm/s to 10cm/sec so I would say an increase of 6cm per second.

What is the definition of average rate of change of velocity with respect to clock time?

What is the change in velocity?

What is the change in clock time?

What therefore is the average rate of change of velocity with respect to clock time?

15 minutes

Excellent work, except for your answer to the last question.
