My question is about a problem on the Cd. I was reviewing #2 Quadratic Model of Depth vs. Clock Time. In one of the problems it states:
** **
** **
Original equations taken from the graph of the depth vs. flow chart
80 = a(11)^2 + b(11) + c
50 = a(50)^2 + b(50) + c
10 = a(130)^2 + b(130) + c then solving to get the following
121 a + 11 b + c = 80
2500 a + 50 b + c = 50
169000 a + 130 b + c = 10 (Up to this point, I follow along perfectly)
Then the problem is evaluate 3 parameters (a,b,and c) by elimination:
(2)-(1): 2500a + 50b + c = 50
- (121a + 11b + c = 80)
result: 2379 a + 39 b = -30 (Again, I follow this perfectly)
The next step is a little confusing for me. It shows (3) - (2) and I am assuming this is the processed step, but how do you get 16900a - 2379a = 14400a, or am I confusing the step?
(3)-(2): 14400a + 80b = -40
Well, in asking this question, I think I have it solved. Did you mean step 3 subtracting step 2 (not the resulting value of 2 - 1)?
Your work looks good. See my notes. Let me know if you have any questions.
