An automobile rolls 10 meters down a constant incline with slope .05 in 8 seconds, starting from rest. The same automobile requires 5 seconds to roll the same distance down an incline with slope .10, again starting from rest.

• At what average rate is the automobile's acceleration changing with respect to the slope of the incline?

I will first find the average velocity for both instances.

vAve= ‘ds/ ‘dt

vAve= 10m/8s= 1.25 m/s

vAve= 10m/5s= 2m/s

We will then find the acceleration from this. First we need to find the vf

(Slope .05) - -1.25m/s*2= 2.5m/s

(Slope .10) - - 2m/s*2= 4m/s

Then we will find the acceleration:

(Slope .05)- - (2.5-0)/8 seconds= .31m/s/s

(Slope .10)- - (4-0)/5seconds= .8m/s/s

.8-.31=.49m/s/s is the change in acceleration

The acceleration increases by .49m/s/s from the slope of .05 to .10.
