I just have a general question. After working on the flow experiment I was wondering if you can make a model equation without actually doing a data table? For ex if I had a 1500 gallon storage tank and it developed a crack in it, Is there away to set up a model to determine how long the tank has been leaking and how long it will be before it is completely empty? I'm sure I would have to know the diameter of the hole in the tank and the tank dimensions as well. I don't need to know how to work the problem. I was just curious if this will come further in one of my classes such as physics?
Sure will. If the hole doesn't change, we can do a very good job of predicting its behavior. If we know the dimensions of the hole and the thickness of the container, and can find the rate at which water is leaking, we can make a decent guess about the water depth.
