Update re efforts to play DVDs
** **
This is an update to my earlier warning/question about my inability to play DVDs on my computer.
** **
What I do understand about the situation:
- I've found that I'm able to play the video and graphics portions of the DVDs on a portable player. (Those are some impressive old-school computers behind you! Do I see a 5.25-inch floppy drive with a flip-down disk holder?)
@&
Those computers were old in 1995. Probably a mix of 286 and 386.
*@
What I don't understand about the situation:
- I'm still not sure how I'm going to run programs, including but not limited to the Timer program that you mention.
@&
You'll have an exercise soon with the TIMER. There are both .exe and Java versions, so that one won't be a problem.
*@
** **
- Have any other students, especially any using a machine of make and, better yet, model similar to mine, reported similar problems? Were they able to resolve those problems, and if so, how?
@&
Have you been able to run the HTML files using your Windows browser?
Vista has generally worked for my students, sometimes requiring installation of a simple fix.
When you get to the TIMER program, try running the .exe version. If it doesn't work, follow the 'fix' prescribed there, which works for most systems.

yet another DVD/prog. update
** **
This has to do with the timer.exe program.
** **
I found the program online (I should have checked that first, I know). Sorry about that. If there are any problems with it or subsequent problems that I can't find, I will let you know.
** **
@&
No problem. Keep me posted.
