The value of y approaches infinity as x gets closer and closer to 2, which will make the denominator approach zero, 1 divided by an infinitely small number less than 1 will give an infinitely great number. 2. The point at which the denominator equals 1E-9 will give a billion, when the denominator is 1E-12 we will have a trillion 3. Well you can make the denominator come closer to zero an infinite number of times by adding decimal places and zeros, which will continue to give greater and greater numbers without bound. The number of particles in the universe may be the largest significant number, but its not where numbers stop, so really we can go on forever with this process. 4. No it can go on to infinity 5. I believe our best approach here would be to take the limit of the function as x approaches two but again I’m only semi familiar with this process and I don’t know how to graph it. A graph of just y=1/x-2 looks like a graph of 1/x but it has been shifted two units to the right. In any case it will show an exponential curve on a graph increasing at an increasing rate. I don't think there's any ambiguity in what's being asked in the stated question. The intent is to draw the very important distinction between the rate at which a quantity changes, and the change in the quantity. It seems clear that as a result of this question you understand this and will be more likely to make such distinctions in your subsequent work. This distinction is at the heart of the calculus and its applications.
