Here are the remaining ten questions:*********************************************

Question: `q003. If you are earning 8 dollars / hour, how long will it take you to earn $72? The answer may well be obvious, but explain as best you can how you reasoned out your result.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution: (type in your solution starting in the next line)

it will take you 9 hours to earn $72 at 8 dollars an hour.

i got this information by multiplying 8 by 8 and got the answer of 64. then i added 8 more digits to make it 72. obiously adding 8 more digets would make the problem 8 times 9 equals 72.

Question: `q004. Calculate (8 + 3) * 5 and 8 + 3 * 5, indicating the order of your steps. Explain, as best you can, the reasons for the difference in your results.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution: (type in your solution starting in the next line)

(8+3)*5

the answer is 55 i got that by adding what is in the parethasese (11) then multiplied 11 by 5 and got the solution of 55.

8+3*5

the answer is 23. i got that by using the order of operations. therefore, the first move to make is multiplying 3 by 5. the answer to that is 15. then add 8 to the 15 to get the solution of 23.

Question: `q005. Calculate (2^4) * 3 and 2^(4 * 3), indicating the order of your steps. Explain, as best you can, the reasons for the difference in your results. Note that the symbol '^' indicates raising to a power. For example, 4^3 means 4 raised to the third power, which is the same as 4 * 4 * 4 = 64.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution:

(2^4)*3 ... the answer is 48. i got that by multiplying 2 to the power of 4. (16) then multiplying 16 by 3 and got the solution of 48.

2^(4*3)... the answer is 4096. i got that by mutiplying whats in the parenthasese which gave me 12. then multplied 2 to the power of 12. I got the solution of 4096.

Question: `q006. Calculate 3 * 5 - 4 * 3 ^ 2 and 3 * 5 - (4 * 3)^2 according to the standard order of operations, indicating the order of your steps. Explain, as best you can, the reasons for the difference in your results.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution:

3 * 5 - 4 * 3 ^ 2...the answer is -21. i got that by first multipling 3 by the 2nd power. which gave me (9)

so now the problem looks like

3 * 5 - 4 * 9

then i multiplied 3 by 5 and got 15. then i multiplied 4 by 9 and got 36.

so now the problem looks like

15-36.

i subtracted 36 by 15 and got -21.

3 * 5 - (4 * 3)^2... the answer is -129. i got that by multipling whats in the parethasese and got (12). then i multiplied 12 to the 2nd power. and i got 144.

so now the problem looks like this...

3 * 5 - (144)

then i multiplied 3 by 5 and got 15.

15-144

then i subtracted 144 by 15. and i got the solution of -129.

Question: `q007. Let y = 2 x + 3. (Note: Liberal Arts Mathematics students are encouraged to do this problem, but are not required to do it).

Evaluate y for x = -2. What is your result? In your solution explain the steps you took to get this result.

Evaluate y for x values -1, 0, 1 and 2. Write out a copy of the table below. In your solution give the y values you obtained in your table.

In your solution, describe your graph in words, and indicate which of the graphs depicted previously your graph most resembles. Explain why you chose the graph you did.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution:

my solution equaled -1.... but im not sure how to graph it. im sorry....

@&

You will graph the function using pencil and paper, then report what you see.

Question: `q008. Let y = x^2 + 3.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution:

I had gotten the same answer... and again.... im not sure how to graph it.

Question: `q009. Let y = 2 ^ x + 3. (Note: Liberal Arts Mathematics students are encouraged to do this problem, but are not required to do it).

Evaluate y for x = 1. What is your result? In your solution explain the steps you took to get this result.

Evaluate y for x values 2, 3 and 4. Write out a copy of the table below. In your solution give the y values you obtained in your table.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Question: `q010. If you divide a certain positive number by 1, is the result greater than the original number, less than the original number or equal to the original number, or does the answer to this question depend on the original number?

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your solution: i would say the answer to this question depends on the original number.

Question: `q011. If you divide a certain positive number by a number greater than 1, is the result greater than the original number, less than the original number or equal to the original number, or does the answer to this question depend on the original number?

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Your Solution: it dont matter about the original number, just as long as its a positive number

Self-critique (if necessary):

------------------------------------------------

Self-critique rating:

@&

Very good, with the exception of the questions on graphing. Check the note I inserted earlier in the document.

Note, however, that you need to submit the entire document, without deleting anything.

In other words, copy the indicated part of the document, insert your answers in the specified places, and submit without removing anything.

The program I'm using to review these files relies on certain codes in the original document, so that I can very quickly locate your responses without having to visually scan the document. This speeds the process up greatly, giving me more time to give students the assistance they need.

No need to repeat this entire document, but do submit those questions on graphing and be sure not to eliminate anything. If necessary self-critique as indicated. Note that specific questions are also welcome as part of a self-critique. If you have specific questions, insert them there and I'll answer.
