course phy121
October7, 2009 at 8:36 pm. Mr. Smith Thanks for all of your help but I am still not sure that I am on the right track. I resubmitted what you highlighted but I am not sure if it is what you wanted. I am still a little bit lost.
** Your optional message or comment: **
I would appreciate any help you can give me on this. I am completely lost and just don't know where to even begin.
** **
I saw that the distance varied when I changed the position of the string. if you have 18.8 it intersects at .52 and if you stretch the string to 19 it intersects at .5 18.6 intersects at .4
18.8/.52= 36.15 19/.5= 38 18.6/.38= 48.9
18.4/.45= 40.88
** The horizontal and vertical coordinates of the rightmost point on the line **
0.52,17.62
0.12,18.7
the first set are the coordinates for the right most point on the graph the second line is the coordinates for the left most point on the graph
** Change in the vertical and change in the horizontal coordinate: **
the horizontal changes by 13 then 15 then 1 then .2 the vertical changes by .4 then .5 then .4 then .6
You gave the coordinates of two points, in answer to the preceding question.
What are the vertical coordinates of these points, and what therefore is the change in the vertical coordinate?
Answer the same for the horizontal coordinates of the two points.
+13,+15,+1,+.2 for horizontal
-.4,-.5,+.4,-.6 for vertical
These are the differences in coordinates. I took the points and looked at the difference between the one I had and the next one on the graph

the vertical coordinates are 18.8, 18.4, 17.9, 18.3, 17.65
the horizontal coordinates are .1, .25, .4, .5, .52
the change in horizontal is +.15, +.15, +.10, +.02
the change in vertical is -.4, -.5, +.4, -.65
the rise and run is the change of x/change of y
.15/-.4 , .15/-.5, .1/.4, .02/-.65
this is the slope -.375, -.3, .25, -.031
the line intercepts at 19 on the y axis
if y=mx+b and b is the y intercept m is the slope y= vertical point x= horizontal point
y=-.375(x)+19
18.8=-.375(.1)+19 18.8=-.0375+19 18.8=18.9625
Is this correct? Am I doing it the right way? Any suggestions I am still not positive that I am on the right track. Thanks for the help
I can't tell what is new and what was part of the document I posted. I'm also not sure my comments and questions are included in this document; if they were then perhaps I could identify the responses to my questions.
Can you mark your revisions with &&&& and resubmit this? Do this using both the form and, in this case, email, so I can get back to you as quickly as possible.
