Question: `q001. If you are earning money at the rate of 8 dollars / hour and work for 4 hours, how much money do you make during this time? I would make 32 dollars in 4 hours at a rate of 8 dollars per hour… 8 times 4 equals 32. Gross pay that is (net pay around $25)… My confidence level is 3*********************************************
Question: `q002. If you work 12 hours and earn $168, then at what rate, in dollars / hour, were you making money? 14 dollars per hour.. confidence level of 3

Question: `q003. If you are earning 8 dollars / hour, how long will it take you to earn $72? The answer may well be obvious, but explain as best you can how you reasoned out your result. I took the number 72 and divided it by 8 giving me the answer of 9. Confidence of 3
`q004. Calculate (8 + 3) * 5 and 8 + 3 * 5, indicating the order of your steps. Explain, as best you can, the reasons for the difference in your results. Using “Pemdas” or the order of operations I would first add what is inside the parenthesis giving me 11 then multiply by 5 since there is a multiplication sign giving me an answer of 55. If there had been no multiplication sign I would have distributed the 5 into the parenthesis. In the second question I would first multiply the 5 and the 3 giving me 15 then add the 8 giving me 23. Confidence rating 3

Question: `q007. Let y = 2 x + 3. (Note: Liberal Arts Mathematics students are encouraged to do this problem, but are not required to do it).
Evaluate y for x = -2. What is your result? In your solution explain the steps you took to get this result.
Evaluate y for x values -1, 0, 1 and 2. Write out a copy of the table below. In your solution give the y values you obtained in your table.
x y
-2 -1 substitute -2 for x and multiply by 2 then add 3
-1 1 substiture -1 for x, multiply by 2 and add 3
0 3 substitute 0 for x multiply giving 0 plus 3 which equals 3
1 5 substitute 1 for x and multiply by 2 giving 2 plus 3 which equals 5
2 7 substitue 2 for x and multiply by 2 giving 4 then add 3 giving 7
Confidence rating of 3
Sketch a graph of y vs. x on a set of coordinate axes resembling the one shown below. You may of course adjust the scale of the x or the y axis to best depict the shape of your graph.
In your solution, describe your graph in words, and indicate which of the graphs depicted previously your graph most resembles. Explain why you chose the graph you did.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Your solution: I am unsure of how to draw the graph in Microsoft word, I do believe that since the solutions are simple y=-2,1, or 5 etc that the graph would show simply a horizontal line crossing the y axis at the given location. No curvature to the lines to the best of my understanding. My confidence level on this question is only a 2 but I will review this area after I finish the initial questions.

Question: `q008. Let y = x^2 + 3.
In your solution give the y values you obtained in your table.
x y
-2 7 substitute -2 for x, -2 squared =4 then add 3
-1 4 substitute -1 for x and square giving positive 1 then add 3
0 3 substitute 0 for x and square giving 0 then add 3
1 4 substitute 1 for x giving 1 then add 3
2 7 substitute 2 for x and square giving 4 plus 3=7
Sketch a graph of y vs. x on a set of coordinate axes resembling the one shown below. You may of course adjust the scale of the x or the y axis to best depict the shape of your graph.
I am unsure how to draw this graph, I know that the (function,) (I believe it’s called a function anyway) will cross the y axis at 4, 3, 7, etc but I don’t know how wide the function should be. This again is something I will review. Confidence level = 1

You don't construct graphs on the computer, you construct them on paper. There is no need to understand a graph constructed by a machine, and understanding is the goal here.
You should go back and construct these graphs on paper, and answer in terms of your sketches.

Question: `q009. Let y = 2 ^ x + 3. (Note: Liberal Arts Mathematics students are encouraged to do this problem, but are not required to do it).
Evaluate y for x = 1. What is your result? In your solution explain the steps you took to get this result.
Evaluate y for x values 2, 3 and 4. Write out a copy of the table below. In your solution give the y values you obtained in your table.
x y
1 5 sub 1 for x giving 2 to the power of 1 which equals 2 then add 3
2 7 sub 2 for x which is 2 squared which is 4 then add 3
3 11 sub 3 for x which is 2 cubed which equals 8 then add 3 giving answer of 11

Sketch a graph of y vs. x on a set of coordinate axes resembling the one shown below. You may of course adjust the scale of the x or the y axis to best depict the shape of your graph.
Again I am unsure of how to draw these graphs. This WILL be reviewed! Confidence on graph =1

You should redo this document, and sketch your graphs on paper (check the one note I inserted).
You also need to insert your answers in the appropriate place on a complete copy of the document.
