course Phy 202
Professor SmithI know that we are able to ask questions throughs forms but I was not sure which form to use. I hope this is acceptable. Below, are some questions and concerns I need your help with very badly. I have been trying to contact you about these throught e-mail for the last couple of weeks but have not been able to get a response. Please respond as soon as possible. Thank You
Professor Smith,
I have a few questions that are not related to specific homework questions. I have e-mailed these questions to ou several times in the last couple of weeks but I have not received any responses yet.
The first question I have is, I am wondering if it is possible to have a change made in our proctor. My husband (Josh Shafer - PHY 201) and I live in Grundy so it is impossible for us to drive to VHCC to take all of the tests so when we filled out our proctor information forms, we filled them out with Sylvia Dye at the SVCC Distance Learning Office as our proctor, however, I now know that I can get a proctor at the Grundy SVCC Booth Center. The center director there, Eddie Hannah, is proctoring another class for us now. Is there any way we can cange our proctor from Sylvia Dye to Eddie Hannah at the Grundy SVCC Booth center. This is much more convenient for us and it would save us a lot of gas money.
Proctor change should be no problem. Just submit the proctor information form with the revised information, and if I don't confirm contacting the proctor within a day or two be sure to submit a note by the form, and also email me. You could then use either center.
The next thing I wanted to discuss with you is more of a concern than a question. I work full time and have a newborn, my husband works full time also, and we are finding it very hard to keep up with all the work that is required in this class. We are not having problems doing the work itself but we cannot seem to get it ALL done. WE spend every free moment we have working on this class and we are still 1-2 weeks behind. We have to have this class so we really do not want to drop it but we don't want to fail either. I know before you told me that the due dates were flexible bt how flexible are they and is it possible for us to get caught up at this point?
These courses are designed for the typical student, who requires a lot of work, and a lot of reinforcement, to achieve the required level of proficiency.
I'm working hard on an alternative for Physics I for students with stronger backgrounds, as well as an alternative for students whose only goal is to pass the course with at least a C. That's a major project, but it's nearing completion and I should be able to clarify that sometime next week.
I can't promise when I'll be able to do the same for Physics II. However I should be able to give you some guidelines by the end of next week.
If you get sufficient work done within the time frame of the course I can allow extra time for you to complete your work. I can't go into detail right now, but use the submit form and email again this weekend, and in the meantime continue with your assignments. I'll be able to advise you better once I've seen a little more of your work.
The third issue we have encountered is that we have some missing lab materials.
Amanda Shafer (Physics 202)
Missing lab materials:
-utility knife
-non-drying clay stick (mine was broken when received)
-1 standard wall switch
-plastic tubing: 6ft. long section, 10inch. long section, 1 piece sealed with hot glue, 10cm long section, 6cm long section, 4cm long section, and 2cm long section
-1 gallon empty container
The posted lab kit lists aren't accurate. However:
Your standard lab kit should have contained a graduated cylinder with the tubing pieces inside, and a standard soda-pop bottlecap with three pieces of tubing inserted into holes through the cap.
You won't need the switch, and weren't charged for it.
I no longer send the utility knife; I used to send a unpackaged knife that cost about a quarter but someone could conceivably cut themselves unpacking an unpackaged knife.
The only thing the clay stick is used for is to support the thin lenses in some of the experiments; is the clay stick pliable enough to do this?
Joshua Shafer (Physics 201)
Missing lab materials:
-utility knofe
-medium steel ball (about 19cm diameter)
-4 pieces of 1/8"" plastic tubing
This kit should also have contained a graduated cylinder with the pieces of tubing inside.
What steel balls were received? The smaller might have been closer to 13 cm or 15 cm in diameter.
If you need any additional information, please let me know. Please get back to us on these issues as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you in the next couple of days, I will contact you by phone, just in case you have not been able to respond to your e-mail.
Let me know the status of your lab materials in light of my notes here, and I'll send anything that's missing. Be sure to include your mailing address.
See my other notes as well, and stay in touch on these issues.
