Professor Smith - Took the last test around noon today. Two blank problems - no excuse other than I maxxed out the 10% of my brain that I use with Physics, Work, Pregnant Wife, 2 yr old son, 10 yr HS reunion, and useless facts from Jeopardy. I looked at those problems, recognized them from the problem sets, then proceeded to stare blankly and drool for about 5 minutes. I hope it doesn't look like I gave up trying, I just didn't want you to try and sift through half a page of garbage when I knew I didn't have the right formulas.
Thanks again for your help, and even though I will never understand why the board of accreditation requires a Computer Science student to take 2 semesters of University Physics, I enjoyed some of the ooh cool moments while doing the experiments.
Thanks for the note. My memory can't be trusted this week--way too much information coming in from many directions--but I'm pretty sure I received and printed off your test today. Let me know if you don't hear anything by the weekend.
Note on the physics requirement in computer science:
Computer science is largely an excercise in logical problem solving.
Physics is almost entirely an exercise in logical problem solving.
Both of my sons-in-law are high-level computer programmers and both rely heavily on type of thinking skills developed in physics and mathematics courses.
Your thinking skills are quite good and I expect you will do well in your field. I've really enjoyed working with you in this course.
Hang in there. Your kids will be teenagers before you know it.
