A typical automobile coasts up a typically paved incline, stops, and coasts back down to the same position.

• When it reaches this position, is it moving faster, slower or at the same speed as when it began? Explain

answer/question/discussion:

Answer: The automobile would be moving at a slower speed then when it started because it would have lost energy from friction on the paved incline. If there was no friction, the car would be moving at the same speed as when it started because gravity is a conservative force.
