Description of situation: I'm writing to check back in about how lab participation, communication, and reporting will be organized and performed.

- Instructions to date:

- - Initial: See http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/forms/collaborative_labs.htm

- - Update: From http://vhcc2.vhcc.edu/dsmith/geninfo/labrynth_created_fall_05/levl1_09/levl2_62/01-13-2013_____20130113_activities_for_Assignments_00_and_01_and_for_first_half_of_Assignment_02.htm: I haven't completely worked out how the communication between students will be handled for the first set of labs. Last semester was the first time we did the collaborative labs, and I find that the most appropriate forms of communication vary from group to group. I'll have a better sense after I've gotten a good look at the initial work done by this semester's students.

I'll be getting back to you on the collaborative labs, within a few days. I have received a number of responses from first-semester physics students, and will be arranging groups and sending out guidelines by the end of this week.

With respect to the regular labs, I've listed a number of questions for 'accelerated labs', some of which will be offered to students once they have proved themselves capable of working on an open question without detailed instructions.

Right now, one 'lab' has been outlined. I recommend that you do a quick practice run of the lab and submit a concise report of your results. In a quick run your goal is to get reasonably good data, but without being overly meticulous at this point. A practice run will typically be followed by a more careful run, possibly with some slight tweaks in the process.
