Dr. Smith,

I notice that not all assignments on the assignments page has a lab that goes with it. What is graded then for that numbered assignment? Like Ass # 24 only has a problem set and open query to do. Is the problem set graded? For correctness? Also, when is the last day you will accept assignments or the final exam?

In practice the 0.5 weight accorded to problems and questions (i.e., queries and other submitted homework) won't be held against you. As you can infer from the weights outlined in the syllabus, this means that if you don't submit any work at all except labs, your test average is 75% of your grade and your lab average is 25%.

If you are trying to get through the course with at least a C:

If you maintain at least a C test average and just pass the lab portion, it would be unlikely that you would receive less than a C for the course. So your efforts should be directed toward completing the labs and preparing for the tests.

The best way to prepare for tests is to know the introductory problem sets, work the assigned problems in the text, do the queries in specified manner and review my comments for feedback.

From the course syllabus:

The final grade will be a weighted average of test and exam grades, grades on homework and the lab grade. A summary of the weighting is as follows:

Test #1: Weight 1.0

Test #2: Weight 1.0

Test #3: Weight 1.0

Test #4: Weight 1.0

Score on Problems and Questions: Weight 0.5.

Lab Grade: Lab grade is 25% of course grade. Lab average must be passing in order to receive a grade of at least C.
