course MTh 151

I am not sure how to copy my access code, and where to put it. Can you please explain this to me. Thanks.

In the message you received containing your code was the following advice:

Copy this code to a file and save that file. It is suggested that you save it to your desktop, email it to yourself, or otherwise place this file in a place where it will always be handy.

I suggest you both copy the file to your desktop and email it to yourself. If you aren't sure how to save to the desktop, tell me what process you go through to find and open a file and I'll be glad to explain from that point.

Your work has been received. Please scroll through the document to see any inserted notes (inserted at the appropriate place in the document, in boldface) and a note at the end. The note at the end of the file will confirm that the file has been reviewed; be sure to read that note. If there is no note at the end, notify the instructor through the Submit Work form, and include the date of the posting to your access page.

assignment #001

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

10:41:18 `q001. Part 1 includes six activities. If you have completed an activity, just enter the answer 'completed'. This question is appearing in the Question box. The box to the right is the Answer box, where you will type in your answers to the questions posed here. To use this program you read a question, then enter your answer in the Answer box and click on Enter Answer. In your answers give what is requested, but don't go into excruciating detail. Try to give just enough that the instructor can tell that you understand an item. After entering an answer click on Next Question/Answer above the Question box. Do you understand these instructions?

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> Yes I understand, give the answer that is reqested and some information so the insructor knows.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

10:43:18 This program has created the folder c:\vhmthphy on your hard drive. Browse to that folder and locate the file whose name begins with SEND. The name of this file will also include your name, as you gave it to the program, and the file will show as a Text file. Never tamper with a SEND file in any way. It contains internal codes as if these codes are tampered with you won't get credit for the assignment. However you are welcome to copy this file to another location and view it, make changes, etc. Just be sure that when requested to do so you send the instructor the original, tamper-free file. State in the Answer box whether or not you have been able to locate the SEND file. Don't send the SEND file yet. Note that more questions/instructions remain in the q_a_prelim.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> Yes I have found the send file.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

10:44:11 `q002. Note that every time you click on Enter Answer the program writes your response to your SEND file. Even if the program disappears all the information you have entered with the Enter Answer button will remain in that file. This program never 'unwrites' anything. Even if this program crashes your information will still be there in the SEND file. Explain this in your own words.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> Everytime you enter an anser it saves it to your send file. It can not be erased.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

10:45:33 Any time you do not receive a reply from the instructor by the end of the following day, you should resubmit your work using the Resubmit Form at http://www.vhcc.edu/dsmith/genInfo/. You have already seen that page, but take another look at that page and be sure you see the Submit Work form, the Resubmit Form and a number of other forms that will be explained later. Enter a sentence or two describing the related links you see at that location.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> The instructor should reply be the end of the day. If not by the end of the 2nd day, then resubmit the work letting the insrtuctor know that you have already submitted the work.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

10:46:03 `q003. If you are working on a VHCC computer, it is probably set up in such a way as to return to its original configuration when it is rebooted. To avoid losing information it is suggested that you back up your work frequently, either by emailing yourself a copy or by using a key drive or other device. This is a good idea on any computer. Please indicate your understanding of this suggestion.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> You should always try to save your work.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

11:06:45 `q001. Note that there are 5 questions in this assignment. Again we have a total of 35 people in a room. Of these, 20 have dark hair and 15 have bright eyes. There are 8 people with dark hair and bright eyes. Let A stand for the collection of people who have dark hair and B for the collection who have bright eyes. The Intersection of these two collections is denoted A ^ B, and stands for the collection of all people who have both dark hair and bright eyes. The Union of these two collections is denoted A U B, and stands for the collection of all people who have at least one of these characteristics. In terms of the diagram you made for the preceding problem, describe the collection A ^ B and the collection A U B. Give the number of people in each of these collections (these numbers are designated by the notation n ( A ^ B) and n(A U B) ). Refer to the diagrams you have made.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> The A^B collection is the intersection with the people who have both dark hair and bright eyes. The A U B is the collection of those who have at least one of these. The A^B is 8. Thier are 8 people with dark hair and bright eyes. The A U B would be 27. To get that I did 35 - 8 = 27. To get that I added 20 + 15 = 35. I got subtracted 8 because that was the number of people that had both.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

11:10:19 `q002. Continuing the preceding example, we let A' stand for the people who are not in the collection A, and we let B' stand for the people who are not in the collection B. What are the characteristics of the people in A', and what characterizes people in B' ? What are n(A ') and n(B '), the numbers of people in A' and B' ?

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE --> Enter, as appropriate, an answer to the question, a critique of your answer in response to a given answer, your insights regarding the situation at this point, notes to yourself, or just an OK. Always critique your solutions by describing any insights you had or errors you makde, and by explaining how you can make use of the insight or how you now know how to avoid certain errors. Also pose for the instructor any question or questions that you have related to the problem or series of problems. I think to get this answer you just switch them around. I think A' is 8, and B' is 12.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

11:14:55 `q003. ( A U B ) ' stands for the everyone outside A U B, and ( A ^ B ) ' stands for everyone outside A ^ B. What characterizes the people in each of these collections, and how many people are there in each?

......!!!!!!!!...................................

For A U B I think you 35 - 27 = 8. For A^B 35-8=27.

.................................................

......!!!!!!!!...................................

11:18:55 `q005. Succinctly describe the relationships between ( A U B ) ', A ' U B ', (A ^ B) ' and A ' ^ B '.

Your mathematics appears to be mostly good, but I'm still not getting all the information. Hopefully the message I sent earlier will clarify the process for you.
