ball down ramp

Your 'ball down ramp' report has been received. Scroll down through the document to see any comments I might have inserted, and my final comment at the end.

** Your general comment **

** Will a steeper ramp give greater or lesser time? **

It will take the least time for the ramp with the steepest slope.

** As slopes increases will time intervals increase, decrease or show no pattern? **

Decreasing

These are the intervals between when the ball was released and when it hit the bracket. The second set had larger intervals than the first.I timed the ball with the Timer program from its release until I heard it hit the bracket.

** Your report of 5 trials each way for 2 dominoes **

I thought that the intervals would be more slow for the second set of data because my desk slopes a bit.

The time it took for the ball to roll from left to right was less than for it to roll from right to left. The intervals are the time it takes for the ball to be relased to the time it hit the ramp. I timed the release of the ball until I heard it hit the bracket with the timer program.

** Do your results support or fail to support your hypothesis about increasing or decreasing times? **

Yes.The average time interval decreased between one and two dominoes and between two and three dominoes.

** How do you think ave velocity is related to slope? **

The slope of the ramp increases the average velocity of the ball. The ball rolled more easily at the slope created by two dominoes than that of one domino. The ball rolls took less time to cover the same distance with a higher slope.

** Speculate on why ave velocity changes with slope. **

The force of gravity causes the ball to roll down the more highly sloped slope faster.

** How could you test your speculations? **

Put the experiment into a chamber that had no force of gravity.
