Week 2 Quiz 1If an object increases velocity at a uniform rate from 5 m/s to 21 m/s in 12 seconds, what is its acceleration and how far does it travel?

Sketch a velocity vs. clock time graph for an object whose initial velocity is 5 m/s and whose velocity 12 seconds later is 21 m/s. Explain what the slope of the graph means and why, and also what the area means and why.

Change in velocity = 21m/s – 5 m/s = 16m/s

Acceleration = change in velocity/’dt = (16m/s)/12s = 1.3 m/s

‘ds = 21cm/s * 12s = 252cm

`ds = vAve * `dt. 21 cm/s is not vAve.

The slope of the graph indicates the change in position over the change in time. This slope is increasing as the graph is increasing. The area is equal to the change in position during the time interval.

See my note. If you aren't completely clear on how this changes your last solution let me know.
