Test 2 Help

** **

** **

A string is under a tension of 15 Newtons and lies along the x axis. Beads with mass 3.3 grams are located at a spacing of 20 cm along a light but strong string. At a certain instant a certain bead is at y position .0011 meters, while the bead to its right is at y position .0028 meters and the bead to its left at y position .0028 meters. At this instant the bead is moving in the y direction at .337 m/s. Find the acceleration of the given bead and approximate its velocity .026 seconds later and the distance it will move in this time.

I don't understand how to find acceleration with this given information.

This problem will not appear on the test.

However a quick answer:

The string to the left and the string to the right each have tension 15 Newtons, and each is inclined so that its component perpendicular to the string, which we can call the y component, either pulls down on the bead or up.

This component of the force exerted each of these strings can be easily calculated from the tension and the slope of the string.

If you add the y components of the two forces, you get the net force on the bead.
