Why did you observe only certain time intervals?
I think the timer reported this because the time is basically calculating and average and only be so precise within a certain accuracy.
What did you see when you looked at the differences between time successive time intervals?
The information tell whether the tapping sped up or slowed down. The positive sign states the taps slowed down and the negative sign shows the taps got faster.

Why did you rarely, if ever, observe that same time interval twice?
You doing two actions at the same time, breathing and tapping. So you have to keep track of it at the same time and this will cause more change in the figures.
Do you think this program is accurate to .1 or .01 ...
The timer program is capable of determining the time between two events accurately to with about .0001 second. I believe the computer has the capablity of being this accurate.
