ball down ramp

phy 201

Your 'ball down ramp' report has been received. Scroll down through the document to see any comments I might have inserted, and my final comment at the end.

** Your general comment **

** Will a steeper ramp give greater or lesser time? **

The time will be less for the steepest ramp because ball will have greater velocity.

** As slopes increases will time intervals increase, decrease or show no pattern? **

leastslope =most time

greatest slope=less time

the intervals would be decreasing

This data represnts time trials of a ball rolling down a slope. It is the measurment between release of the ball and reaching the end of the slope. I set up a ramp upon 2 dominoes and used a large marble as my ball. At the end of my ramp was the bracket which used as my stopping point. To gather data I recorded the time after i released the ball to the sound of the ball hitting the bracket.

I added one domino to the setup used previously this increased the slope of the ramp. Causing the time trials to decrease because the ball had greater velocity. During practice I was reminding myself to reposition the bracket back for every trial and watch where i positioned the ball every time to get the closest readings.

** Do your results support or fail to support your hypothesis about increasing or decreasing times? **

My results support the hypotheses that the greater the slope the less time required for the ball to roll down the hill. My results show that with one domino, time measur. were the greatest and decreased with increasing the steepness of the slope up to 3 dominoes.

** How do you think ave velocity is related to slope? **

The greater the slope the greater the velocity because the change in time is inverse to the change in slope. We would ignore change in positoin because the ball traveled the same distance for all intervals.

** Speculate on why ave velocity changes with slope. **

Change in time due to change in steepness of slope

** How could you test your speculations? **

Figure an vAve velocity from each of the three trials starting by finding an avg. time and measuring distance of the slope.
