You have calculated the slope of the position vs. clock time trapezoid.

However the slope of that trapezoid is not the acceleration. The acceleration would be the slope of the v vs. t trapezoid.

You also left the units out of your calculation.

-2 m / (0.64 s) gives you -3.1 m/s, not -3.1 m/s^2.

The units, used throughout the calculation, would have alerted you to the fact that you had not calculated an acceleration.

A ball falls freely from rest at a height of 2 meters. Observations indicate that the ball reaches the ground in .64 seconds.

• Based on this information what is its acceleration?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

rise= -2m

run= 0.64s

-2/0.64= -3.125m/s^2

• Is this consistent with an observation which concludes that a ball dropped from a height of 5 meters reaches the ground in 1.05 seconds?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

rise= -5m

run= 1.05s

-5/1.05= -4.76m/s^2

• Are these observations consistent with the accepted value of the acceleration of gravity, which is 9.8 m / s^2?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

My values are negative to denote that it is falling. However, my calculations of the balls being dropped are slower than the accepted value for gravity. I found 3.125m/s^2 and 4.76m/s^2, which is less than half of the accept value, which shows that the balls are moving slower than the accept value for gravity.

You haven't calculated your accelerations correctly.

Check my note on your first calculation, and see if you can get the correct acceleration in a revision.
