An automobile rolls 10 meters down a constant incline with slope .05 in 8 seconds, starting from rest. The same automobile requires 5 seconds to roll the same distance down an incline with slope .10, again starting from rest.
• At what average rate is the automobile's acceleration changing with respect to the slope of the incline?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
First we need to find the accelerations of both cars.
Car 1: 10meters/8 seconds=1.25 vAve
1.25*2=2.5m/sec-0m/sec/8sec=.31m/sec/sec
Car 2: 10m/5sec=2m/sec(2)=4m/sec.
4m/sec/8sec= 0.5m/sec/sec.
Now that we know both accelerations, we can solve the rate of acceleration change with respect to slope.
Change in acceleration/change in slope
(0.5m/sec/sec-.31m/sec/sec)/(.10-.05)= 3.8m/sec/sec/slope
This means as we increase the slope a unit, the acceleration will increase by 3.8m/sec/sec
