Seed 17.1
A steel ball rolls down a ramp and collides with a marble, as in the video. The marble is slightly smaller and quite a bit less massive than the ball.
• If they both experience the same force, which will have the greater acceleration?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> : F=m(acceleration) so acceleration=force/mass. Therefore the object with the smaller mass will have a greater acceleration.
• If the forces were exerted during identical time intervals, which would have the greater change in velocity?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :
The smaller object would have the greater change in velocity.
‘dv=acceleration(time). So if they had the same original velocity, the object with the greater acceleration (the smaller) will have a greater final velocity and change in velocity.
