The problem:

A ball starts with velocity 4 cm/sec and ends with a velocity of 10 cm/sec.

• What is your best guess about the ball's average velocity?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):

I would say that the ball would have an average velocity of 5cm/sec, because in a previous assignment I learned that an object’s final velocity is double that of its average velocity. So if the velocity of the ball ended up an 10cm/sec (its final velocity), Then divide the final velocity by 2 to get the average velocity. 10cm/sec / 2 = 5cm/sec.

• Without further information, why is this just a guess?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):

I would think it would be fairly accurate based on the information learned in past work. But it can be identified as a guess because of the unknown information like the time and the distance the ball rolled.

• If it takes 3 seconds to get from the first velocity to the second, then what is your best guess about how far it traveled during that time?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):

Well I would think that is would depend on what the object is before any kind of educated guess could be made. It’s the object moving by gravity alone, or is the object motor powered?

• At what average rate did its velocity change with respect to clock time during this interval?

The average rate of velocity change increased as time increased.

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):

The average rate of velocity change increased as time increased.
