Copy the problem below into a text editor or word processor.

• This form accepts only text so a text editor such as Notepad is fine.

• You might prefer for your own reasons to use a word processor (for example the formatting features might help you organize your answer and explanations), but note that formatting will be lost when you submit your work through the form.

• If you use a word processor avoid using special characters or symbols, which would require more of your time to create and will not be represented correctly by the form.

• As you will see within the first few assignments, there is an easily-learned keyboard-based shorthand that doesn't look quite as pretty as word-processor symbols, but which gets the job done much more efficiently.

You should enter your answers using the text editor or word processor. You will then copy-and-paste it into the box below, and submit.

The problem:

A ball starts with velocity 4 cm/sec and ends with a velocity of 10 cm/sec.

• What is your best guess about the ball's average velocity?

->->->->->->->->->->->-> answer/question/discussion:

Based on these two numbers, I would say the average is 7cm/sec. This is just estimated by adding the two velocities and dividing by two.

• Without further information, why is this just a guess?

->->->->->->->->->->->-> answer/question/discussion:

This is just a guess because I do not know the time interval that these two velocities occurred over. If it took a while in seconds then this average would be much different than the average I approximated.

• If it takes 3 seconds to get from the first velocity to the second, then what is your best guess about how far it traveled during that time?

->->->->->->->->->->->-> answer/question/discussion:

With using the estimated average velocity of 7cm/s than I would say 7 times 3 equals 21 cm.

• At what average rate did its velocity change with respect to clock time during this interval?

->->->->->->->->->->->-> answer/question/discussion:

The average rate that the velocity changed with respect to clock time would be 10m/s – 4m/s over 3 seconds which equals 2m/s/s.

I figured this would follow soon after the first attempt. Looks good.
