A ball is tossed upward with an initial velocity of 25 meters / second. Assume that the acceleration of gravity is 10 m/s^2 downward.

• What will be the velocity of the ball after one second?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

The velocity will be 15m/s by using the acceleration formula.

• What will be its velocity at the end of two seconds?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

After 2 seconds the velocity will be 5m/s by the acceleration formula.

• During the first two seconds, what therefore is its average velocity?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

The average velocity equals 25m/s + 5m/s divided by 2 equals 15m/s.

• How far does it therefore rise in the first two seconds?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

It will rise 30 meters because vAve * dt equals 30.

• What will be its velocity at the end of a additional second, and at the end of one more additional second?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

At the end of 3 seconds, the velocity will be -5m/s and after 4 seconds the velocity will be -15m/s.

• At what instant does the ball reach its maximum height, and how high has it risen by that instant?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

by setting the final velocity equal to 0 and solving for dt, dt equals 2.5s. the average velocity at this time would be 25+0 over 2, which equals 12.5m/s*2.5 equals 31.25m

• What is its average velocity for the first four seconds, and how high is it at the end of the fourth second?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

The average velocity will be 25+-15 over 2 which equals 5m/s. This will make the ball 20meters high.

• How high will it be at the end of the sixth second?

answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> :

After 6 seconds, the velocity is equal to -35m/s giving an average velocity of -5m/s. therefore the ball will have fallen -30m in the direction of the ground.
