The problem:A ball is moving at 10 cm/s when clock time is 4 seconds, and at 40 cm/s when clock time is 9 seconds.
• Sketch a v vs. t graph and represent these two events by the points (4 sec, 10 cm/s) and (9 s, 40 cm/s).
answer/question/discussion:
I did this on graph paper in my notebook.
• Sketch a straight line segment between these points.
answer/question/discussion:
I also did this on graph paper in my notebook.
• What are the rise, run and slope of this segment?
answer/question/discussion:
The rise is 1 and the run is 6 so the slope = 1/6.
• What is the area of the graph beneath this segment?
answer/question/discussion:
The way I got my graph drawn on paper they are one inch squares, so I used the square inches as my unit.
Triangle, base times height(.5)= 6x*5x(.5)=15in squared
Rectangle, length times width=6(4)=24 in squared
15+24=39in squared
