How do we sketch a graph of: Texcess(t)=50(.97^t). What parts are the x and y and how would we set it up?

T_excess(t) is the function, t the independent variable. The function values go on the vertical axis, the values of the independent variable on the horizontal.

This is an exponential function of form y = A b^t and you can graph it using the basic points and the fact that since b < 1 the horizontal asymptote is the positive x axis.
