Professor - my question is in reference to how the final grade for Math 272 will be calculated. As I understand it, we have the 4 chapter tests, and a cumulative final. The blackboard lists 7 grades. How are the other two grades achieved if 5 of the 7 are for tests? Are they participation/homework? If so, how is it graded? Thank you so much. With my current average every point will be important!

Per the email I sent out a few days ago, you can ignore any fields in the Blackboard gradebook that don't correspond to the four tests.

The cumulative final is optional, and very few students choose that option, preferring to concentrate on the individual tests. Note that you can take another test on any chapter(s) you wish; I count the higher grade.

The rest of the grade is based on your submitted work. If you are submitting the homework and overall doing a good job, and making a good effort, and end up with a grade close to but below the borderline between two grades, your homework grade will make it much more likely that you will get the higher grade. I wouldn't use your homework grade to lower the grade indicated by your test average.
