query predictions

Sketch your graph representing the predicted height of the low end vs. the weight on the spring.

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

I think that the spring will strech more at a greater weight when the weight is added. Sometimes springs lose their strength as they start to stretch and won't go back to the orginial shape.

STUDENT RESPONSE:

I predict that the spring will stretch at a greater rate as the weight is added. In my experience, springs lose their strength as they are stretched, and will not go back to their original shape.

INSTRUCTOR COMMENT:

** Within their range of elasticity the graph is very nearly linear.

If stretched too far the spring will lose its permanent elastic properties and will then deviate from linearity **

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

In the range the graph will be near a linear graph. If it is strectched too much the spring won't stay the same and will become elastic and may not become a linear graph.

comment on how the actual graph of the data compared with your prediction

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

The graph is actually a linear one.

** If you predicted a linear graph then did the actual graph confirm this? If you predicted a curvature did the actual graph confirm this? **

......!!!!!!!!...................................

RESPONSE -->

The graph did comfrim this by the way the points were placed and they way the graph is placed.

RESPONSE -->

I was suprised how different a graph can be with different points. I enjoyed using the linked outline. It was so helpful to me.

I'm glad you find the linked outline helpful. Most successful students do, though a few who have done well in the course have reported that they didn't use it.
