Text section 1.1Section 1.1 Problems 1-4, 6, 10, 12, 23, 17, 22, 24, 27, 31, 32, 36, 37, 39, 40, 43
1.) the statement f(35)=12 in terms of population state that in 35 years from 1970 (so 1970+35=2005) the population will be 12 million.
2.) The graph of heart rate versus time when the drug is taken looks like a spike in the y values rapidly, and plummets in y values when the heart rate returns to normal
3.) According to the graph the production of the assembly line has a maximum efficiency then starts to drop as it passes that given point.
4.) (0,0)(1,1)
→ y2-y1/x2-x1→ y-y1=m(x-x1)
y=x
6.)(-2,1)(2,3)
→ y2-y1/x2-x1→ y-y1=m(x-x1)
y=1/2x + 2
10.) -4y+2x+8=0 find slope and y-intercept:
y=1/2x+2 →
slope:1/2
y-intercept:2
12.)a.) y=x-5 → graph (V)
b.)-3x+4=y → graph (IV)
c.) 5=y→ (I)
d.)y=-4x-5→graph (VI)
e.) y=x+6 → graph (II)
f.) y=x/2→ (III)
23.)approximate domain for the graph of y=f(x) is (1,5)
approximate range for the graph of y=f(x) is (1,5)
17.)find equation to the line through point(2,1) which is perpendicular to the line y=5x-3
→ perpendicular =same slope(5) y-y1=m(x-x1)→ y-1=5(x-2)
@&
The same slope makes two lines parallel.
Lines which are not horizontal and vertical are perpendicular if and only if their slopes are negative reciprocals.
*@
→y=5x-9
22.) the graph displayed appears to have a domain of about -2 to 2 and a range from -2 to 2
@&
I can't see these graphs, so you would need to provide some explanation as to why you have asserted this domain and range.
*@
24.)y=x^2 +2
find domain and range:
domain: (-inf,+inf)
range(2,+inf)
27.) g(x)=(4-x^2)/(x^2+x) →
0=(4-x^2)/(x^2+x)
domain: all real numbers where the denominator does not equal zero in the function. When x=0 and x=-1
31.) E=kv^3 (k is a constant)
32.) N=1/l^2 → N=k/l^2 (k is a constant)
@&
Neither this problem nor the last provides me with enough information to review it.

36.) Charge per cubic foot =105 − 90 = .025/ 1600 − 1000
let c = cost, w = cubic feet of water, b = fixed charge, and m = cost/cubic feet
c = b + mw. →
90 = b+1000m 105 = b + 1600m.
Subtracting the first equation →15 = 600m, so m = 0.025. c = b + 0.025w, so 90 = b + 0.025(1000), → b = 65.
→ c = 65 + 0.025w. →
130=65+0.025w
→w=2600.
37.) f (30) = 10 means that the value of f at t = 30 was 10. 30 minutes after the object was placed outside, it cooled to 10 deg C. when the object was initially put outside, it had a temperature of the intercept b measures the value of t when f(t) = 0. at time b the object’s temperature is 0 ◦C.
a.) F-interceptis(0,32
b.) F = 1.8(20) + 32 = 68◦F.
c.) C = 1.8◦C + 32 −32 = 0.8◦C
◦C = −40◦ = ◦F.
39.) (113,1940)(66,1990)
1990-1940/66-113 →50/-47→-1.063
y-y1=m(x-x1)→ y-1940=-50/47(x-113)→y-1940=-50/47x+120.21
y=-1.063x+2060.21 →S(t)=1.063t+2060.21
40.) ***I did not quite understand this problem, if an explanation could be given****
@&
You're welcome to provide sufficient information using the questions form. Given the information I'll be glad to respond.
*@
43.) the graph represented by a constant speed from Chicago to Detroit would be a linear function with a constant rate.
@&
Check my notes.
I can't tell what all these problems are asking, but I can tell this on most. You've got a few errors, but overall everything I can identify looks good.
*@
@&
Note that you haven't been asked to present your work on all the problems. The only requirement is to complete the query.
However this format is fine and you're welcome to use it to submit any problems you wish. You could submit all or just some of the problems, according to what benefits you. For example, if you're very sure of a problem then you probably don't need to take the time to type out your solution.
