course Phy 121

A projectile leaves the edge of a table and, while traveling horizontally at a constant velocity, falls freely a distance of 125 cm to the floor. It travels a horizontal distance of 11.1 cm during its fall. If its vertical acceleration is 980 cm/s2, how long does it take to fall and what is its horizontal velocity during the fall?'dsh = 11.1 cm,'dsv = 125 cm,a = 980 cm/s^2

In order to find 'dt I first found final velocity:

vf^2 = v0^2 + 2 * a * 'dt vf^2 = 0 cm/s + 2 * 980 cm/s^2 * 125 cm

vf^2 = 245000 cm^2/s^2 vf = 494.974 cm/s

'dt = (vf - v0) / a 'dt = 494.974 cm/s / 980 cm/s^2 = 0.505 seconds

If the projectile travels 11.1 cm in 0.505 seconds it has a velocity of 21.98 cm/s"

Very well done.
