I am attempting to do the experiments measuring atmospheric pressure parts 1 and 2.

I have read the instruction on how to set this up over and over again and i just do not get it. I cannot find anything about it on the CDs or on the PHY webpage. I am very frustrated with it and i know it is not as hard as i make it out to be. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I dont know if you have any pictures of the system or anything of that nature.

Thanks in advance.

The system is almost identical to the one you used in the experiment Raising Water in a Vertical Tube.

Students who have completed that experiment have not had a lot of trouble with the instructions for Part 1, though the mathematical content in the second half of Part 2 tends to be problematic. There are modifications I've wanted to include in the these experiments, so I've used this as an opportunity to make the revisions. In the process I've notices places where students might well be expected to have problems with the instructions, and I've tried to clarify the instructions in those places.

I try to balance the number of pictures with the detail in the written instructions. If I include too many pictures with too much detail, students tend to ignore the subtleties of the written instructions. Too few pictures and they don't know what the words are talking about.
