The problem:
A ball starts with velocity 4 cm/sec and ends with a velocity of 10 cm/sec.
• What is your best guess about the ball's average velocity?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):
My best guess would be 7 cm/sec. (4cm/sec + 10cm/sec= 14, 14/2=7)

• Without further information, why is this just a guess?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):
This is just a guess because the ball was traveling at different paces throughout the time interval; therefore it could have traveled at a different pace than 7cm/sec for most of the time.

• If it takes 3 seconds to get from the first velocity to the second, then what is your best guess about how far it traveled during that time?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):
If it takes 3 seconds for the ball to travel from the first velocity of 4cm/sec to the second velocity of 10cm/sec, then my best guess would be 21 cm because I estimated previously that the ball was traveling at an average pace of 7 cm/sec.

• At what average rate did its velocity change with respect to clock time during this interval?
answer/question/discussion: ->->->->->->->->->->->-> (start in the next line):
The velocity changed at an average rate of 6 cm/sec in respect to clock time. This is an absolute guess because I have no idea.

@& You have to apply the definition of average rate.
See if you can systematically apply the definition to this question.*@
