I have a question about grades. Do we get grades for the assignments we submit or only the lab activities? I did the initial activites, but I'm still confused on the grades.

I don't grade individual assignments. I do grade your portfolio. After you have completed the first week's content assignments, you can ask me for more meaningful feedback on that. However so far you are doing very good work and could expect your homework and participation grade at this point to be a very solid A.
