2. Are we suppose to do all the homework assignments, quizzes, test on the MathXL?

The last instruction in Assignment 1 on your Assignments page is
When you have completed your work submit the open query for this assignment using the Submit Work Form. The open query will ask you questions about your work on selected problems. You are required only to submit the open query . If you have questions on something not covered by the open query you may submit your questions using the Submit Question Form.
The words 'open query' constitute a link to the document.
For the upside down U we use ^. This is the same symbol as for exponentiation, but it's used in a different context so there should be no confusion as to its meaning in a given situation.
The Orientation assignment relevant to Math XL was just posted yesterday. It's the one entitled 'using DVDs' or something very similar. Work through that; it should answer most of your questions about how Math XL is to be used in this course.
The brief answer to your question is that you will not be using Math XL to do your homework, but when you aren't sure how to do a homework problem you might find it very useful.
