Orders of operations say( p e m d a s) Parentheses(or grouping symbol first) ,than exponents, than multiply and divide whichever comes first from left to right and, then add or subtract whichever comes first from left to right.

(8+3)*5 I have to add first because it inside the parentheses next I take the sum of 8+3 (11) and multiply it by 5 . 11*5=55

8+3*5 I see that there are no parentheses so I have to multiply or divide whichever comes first from left to right. I have 3*5 so I now use the product I have with adding 8+15 which equals 23.
